Download Canon Service Tool v.4718
Canon Service Tool is a tool used to reprogram printers, after replacing components such as: Logic Board Ass'y, Waste Ink Absorber, Print Head, etc. Errors on Canon printers are divided into two groups namely "Operator Call Error" and "Service Call Error". Operator Call Error is an error that can be resolved by the operator or user such as: paper jam, no paper, ink cartridge in a wrong position, ink cartridge not installed, etc. Whereas Service Call Error is an error that requires immediate repair by the Service Center, such as: waste ink absorber is full error code [5B00].
To reset the printer Canon can be done in two ways, namely manual reset and Service Tool reset. For manual resets, read the Reset Canon Printers Manually post, while resetting with the Service Tool will be discussed in the post below.
In the case of "Waste ink absorber is full [5B00]", using the Service Tool to reset the waste ink counter will be effective if the waste ink absorber is replaced with a new one. The use of Service Tools that are not followed by component replacement, will cause new problems in the near future. The use of the Service Tool to reset the waste ink counter will be effective after previously changing the waste ink absorber.
The Canon Service Tool can be used if the printer is in Service Mode position. If the printer is in the user mode position, the Service Tool cannot be used or an error message appears when used. The Canon Service Tool can be used for several types of printers, and when the Service Tool does not support the printer, an error message will appear as a sign that the Service Tool does not support the printer. Canon Service Tool is a portable application that can be used without having to install it first.

How to reset printer with Service Tool v.4718
1. Enter Service Mode
2. Resetting with Service Tool v.4718
1. Enter Service Mode
In order to be reset, the printer must be in Service Mode state. Here's how.
1. The power cable is connected, the USB cable is connected to the printer and PC/Laptop, and the printer is off.
2. Press and hold the Stop/Reset/Resume/Cancel button (adjust your printer, what buttons are available)
3. Press and hold the Start/Power/ON/OFF button (customize your printer, what buttons are available).
4. Release the Stop/Reset/Resume/Cancel button. For the Start/Power/ON/OFF button still on hold (don't release)
5. Press the Stop/Reset/Resume/Cancel button x times, then release the Start/Power/ON/OFF button (read; How to do step 5.) After the printer is in Service Mode, open the Canon Service Tool.
How to do step 5
- Example: the printer being repaired is Canon MG2100, and the x value is 5 times.
- While holding down the Start/Power/ON/OFF button, Press the Stop/Reset/Resume/Cancel button 4 times, then press and hold the Stop/Reset/Resume/Cancel button 1 time, then release the two buttons simultaneously (Stop/Reset/Resume/Cancel, and Start/Power/ON/OFF)
Note:
- If the light stops blinking and turns green/blue, the printer is in Service Mode. If the lights keep flashing, or turn orange, the printer failed to enter Service Mode. Turn off the printer and repeat the procedure to enter Service Mode.
- The value of x, adjusts the type of printer that is fixed. For Canon printers in general x values are 2 and 5. But there are also x values that are 3 times, such as: iP90, i70, i80. For the value x = 6 times, it is used to disable error detection on the scanner and start the machine in service mode. Example: on the Canon MG2100, the value of x is 5 times. To disable error detection on the scanner, the x value is 6 times.

DeleteHEEELP. WHEN I OPEN THE SERVICE TOOL ALL OF THE BUTTONS ARE NOT CLICKABLE. ALL OF THE BUTTONS ARE GRAYED OUT.
ReplyDeletePossible if all buttons cant be clicked "gray":
ReplyDelete1. The printer isn't in Service Mode. Repeat the enter service mode procedure.
2. If the enter service mode procedure has been carried out correctly, but the button cant be clicked "gray", there may be "Double error". Double errors are in addition to the "waste ink absorber full" error, another error was found to the printer. Example second error: Black/color cartridges error. So, before resetting the printer can be done, fix the errors in the cartridges first. If the error cartridges have been fixed, reset the "waste ink absorber full" can be done.

ReplyDeleteMy printer is canon g3000 and I have tried going into service mode by doing the routine and pressing 5 times for the stop button. However, it simply just flashed the orange light and got stuck there. Afterwards, I tried doing the press & hold things again but this time pressing 6 times for the stop button and I got a yellow light beside my switch. However, the options on the service tool remain grey and cannot be pressed.
ReplyDeleteI think the problem may be that I can connect my pc to the printer using the usb when it is normally on, but when it is in service mode, my pc somehow cannot detect it. Can you help me?
Make sure the Service Mode entry procedure is performed correctly.
DeleteWhen pressing the Stop button 6 times the light turns yellow but the service tool is gray, move the printer's USB cable to a different USB slot.
I have tried moving the printer's USB cable to a different USB slot, but it didn't work. Is there any other thing I can try?
Deletein 1st generation g series printers, you need to press "stop" button 1st then press and hold "power" button and press 6 times on "stop" button. if still the same problem, either the version of the software is already not supported on the printer or the service mode is locked due to used of unauthorized service tool. to fix this, must replace the main pcb assy' or go to the nearest service center.
DeleteWhen I perfrom the EEPROM function the paper comes out blank. I then set the clear ink and region but it still comes out as blank. Any thoughts?
ReplyDeleteyou need to perform head cleaning but check 1st if the inks on ink tubes not backflow. if so, you need to perform ink flashing. if same problem, black printer head is defective. (note g series printer only)
DeleteI performed the EEPROM function, but the paper comes out blank even though it sounds like the printer is printing something. AFter setting clear ink and region and performming EEPROM once again it comes out blank still. Any thoughts?
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, there seems to be a problem with the paper rollers. Paper rollers are driven by a mechanical shaped like a gear. Chances are, the gear position is incorrect. When printing, the paper rollers will pull the paper down, then the print head will print letters / images, on paper that slowly moves downward. So when the print head moves (left / right), the roller does not push the paper down, and when the print head stops moving (finished printing), the new roller pushes the paper down to the bottom.
DeleteTry to check the position of the gears that move the paper roll.
Is it true that use of Service Tool program will render entry into Service Mode impossible the next time? (The ResetKey website that supply WIC reset program say this.)
ReplyDeleteThat is not true. Using the Service Tools program will not cause problems the next time you enter Service Mode.
DeleteFailure to enter Service Mode is not caused by using the Service Tool. Based on the case that I encountered, failure to enter Service Mode is caused, when the printer has entered Service Mode, the user uses more than one Service Tool. Example: when the printer enters Service Mode, the user uses ST.3400 to reset, but fails. Then the user tries to reset with ST.4718, and an error still appears, here the beginning of the error.
When a user tries with ST.3400 but fails, the printer should be turned off first, then repeat in Service Mode, then try it with a different Service Tool. If the printer has entered Service Mode, then the user uses more than one Service Tool but fails, and when the printer is turned off, the printer cannot enter Service Mode again.
So the cause of failure to enter Service Mode is caused when the printer has entered Service Mode, the user uses more than one Service Tool. That is in my experience.
for me it broke service mode
DeleteI just want to say that my use of the Service Tool program to reset the ink counter on my Canon printer worked perfectly. Since doing so my printer has successfully created about 75 color photographs, without any sign of malfunction or other concerns.
DeleteSo, thank you sir for making this program available and supporting everyone with your answers and suggestions. The world needs more generous people like you!
Good morning sir! I entered my printer into service mode. Then I open the service tool in my laptop, but when I print EEPROM, the paper stays in the middle an the printer blinks 8 times again (orange led).
ReplyDeleteWhen I also enter the printer into service mode, after some seconds it blinks again 8 times. Sir what should I do about this. Thank you!
Your printer series?
Deletehi
ReplyDeletei entered service mode but get error code 0006 every where i try.
what should i do now
error code 006 mean
Delete1. the printer is not in the service mode, or
2. the service tool is not applicable to the printer
If I replace the Black printer head of a canon G1000 printer do I have to use the service tool v4718 to reset the printer? If so can you please explain how to do that?
DeleteThank you in advance for helping us.

ReplyDeleteThank you in advance for helping us.
please need to reset ink canon ts3140 thanks
ReplyDeleteI tried on E470 but error code 002
ReplyDeleteSame here.. whats the solution for this error?
DeleteSame here. What should i do
DeleteError code: 002
DeleteMeaning: The service tool doesn't support the requested operation.
Solution: Unfortunately not all functions in the Service Tool can be used. When the function key in the Service Tool is pressed, and an error code: 002 appears, it means that the Service Tool does not support the requested command. The conclusion is that not all buttons in the Service Tool can be used, so just ignore this error message and then select a function key that is supported by the Service Tool.
thank you very much sir. wery helpful for me for canon g2000. thanks again sir.
ReplyDeleteTried on Canon MG3670. Wanted to reset region from Asia to EUR. Made the changes with Canon tool. But printer resets to Asia region when turned off (changes do not stick). Any solution?
ReplyDeleteExcellent instructions, thank you, but ...

I have tried several times and am pretty sure that I have entered Service mode correctly.

I'd be very grateful for help - Canon agents want £80 to replace waste ink pads!

ReplyDeleteHello sir, I have a Canon MG2577s all in one colour printer, I began receiving the 'ink reservoir full' error message few days ago, it continued to print, copy, scan with it for a few days before finally showing the 7 time power & stop button flashing and error 5B00 on PC screen, after downloading Service Tool v.4718 from here I can successfully enter service mode by pressing STOP 5 times and can print EEPROM as per the instructions on this page which shows D=100.2 but after that when tried to follow the next instruction i.e., step No.3 (with 'Main' already selected in 'clear ink counter' as per step 2) by clicking 'set' error 002 is encountered, so request you to please help, Thank you.

canon e470 errror code 7 how to solve
ReplyDeleteThank you man! you saved me... It really worked.
ReplyDeleteIn one of your blog post you mentioned for Mp287 the service tool is v.1074.But most other blog posts recommending V.3400.May I know what are the service tools that is compatible with Canon Mp287?v.1074.v.3200.v3400,v.4718?
ReplyDeleteBased on the Canon MP280 / MP287 / MP288 Service Manual document (QY8-13CW-000, page 6) it is explained that ST.1074 is used to reset it. Meanwhile, ST.3200, ST.3400, ST.4718, based on other people's experiences, can also be used to reset the MP287. In my opinion, I prefer ST.1074 over other versions, because it is according to the MP287 Service Manual suggestion.
DeleteWhat I'm worried about is that if the post is written: Canon MP287 can be reset with ST.1074, ST.3200, ST.3400, and ST.4718, then other people will be interested in trying them all. Although most other blogs write, Service Tool version A (supports iP series, MP series, MG series, etc.), Service Tool version B (supports iP series, MP series, MG series, etc.), etc. reset with various versions of the Service Tool (try various kinds of Service Tool), what happens is the printer IC EEPROM will be damaged.
Related to IC EEPROM damage caused by misuse of Service Tool, please read my post entitled "Canon Service Tool Error Code Mean (Error code: 002, 005, 006, 007, 009, etc)", in the discussion "Error: The indicator light flashes orange when entering Service Mode. "
Regarding resetting the MP287 printer, follow the instructions in the Canon MP280 / MP287 / MP288 Service Manual (manual code: QY8-13CW-000). You can download the MP287 Service Manual on the internet for free.
Sir,Thanks for the clear explanation.
DeleteHi Sir.
ReplyDeleteFollow up on my Canon Mp287 which faced P07 Ink Absorber full error.
Printer disassembled, cleaned ink absorber, reassembled & reset ink counter with service tool ST3400(V.3400)
Printer back to normal but color cartridge(CL811) not printing light cyan, light magenta & light yellow when Print Nozzle check pattern(A).Could it be an electrical problem?Tried to do deep cleaning but same symptom.
Please can you give me any check points or solution as i am out of ideas.
Hi,
DeleteThe printer may not print correctly if you touch print head nozzles and electrical contacts. When the printer is disassembled, the ink absorber is cleaned and reassembled, it is possible that the print head nozzles or electrical contacts may accidentally be touched.
If the electrical contacts are damaged, there are 5 possibilities that will occur in the color cartridge
1. Only cyan and light cyan doesn't come out.
2. Only magenta and light magenta doesn't come out.
3. Only yellow and light yellow doesn't come out.
4. Light cyan, light magenta and light yellow doesn't come out.
5. Color cartridge not recognized.
Solution for No.4
1. If you print a photo or color image with the “Standard” print quality, the results will be poor. The solution, when printing photos or color images, use "High" print quality to get better quality. In other words, the color cartridge cannot be used to print at "Standard" quality, and as a workaround use "High" quality.
2. Because there is damage to electrical contacts, the final solution is to replace the color cartridge.
Note
If the print head nozzles and electrical contacts are never touched, are there other causes of damage to the color cartridge?
Based on personal experience, improper use of the service tool may cause damage to the electrical contact cartridge. I have experienced a similar case, and what happened to the color cartridge was yellow and light yellow did not come out. At that time, I tested Service Tool v.1050, v.1074, v.3000, v.3400, v.4720, on a Canon iP2770 (the printer I used for testing was in normal condition and there was no ink absorber full error). I know what I did could damage the printer (IC EEPROM), but I did it for the experiment because at that time I was learning something.
Even though the printer I used for the experiment was in normal conditions, there was damage to the color cartridge (yellow and light yellow didn't come out). So, use the Service Tool according to the instructions, in order to avoid errors or other unwanted damage.
As color cartridge CL811 is still recognised, will still continue using & configure setting to (High) quality if need to print in color. Many thanks for all the information & the workaround.
ReplyDeleteI have a Canon G3500 and had the common error code 5B00 with seven amber light flashes meaning (I believe) that the waste ink counter needs to be reset. This service tool and the instructions worked first time. The instructions were easy to follow and everything happened exactly as the instructions described. Thank you so much easyfixs.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteit works on G2000 many, Thanks

ReplyDeleteFor your answer.
Bármire kattintok, Error kód 006 jelenik meg
ReplyDeletePróbálkoztam a hiba elhárításával, de egyszer csak a nyomtató leállt, nem lehet bekapcsolni sem!
ReplyDeleteMeghalt?
Very helpful indeed - Cannon Support had advised me to throw this fairly new G3500 away as it was beyond economical repair for the b500 error! Your fix has completely fixed the issue! Needless to say I'll never buy another Cannon printer ever again!
ReplyDeleteHello, I'm trying to reset G1010 with ST v.4718, but error code: 006..how to solve this issue
ReplyDeleteError code: 006 means that when the reset is done, the printer is not in Service Mode.
DeleteSolution
Repeat the procedure to enter Service Mode correctly.
- Turn off the printer
- Press and hold the Resume/Cancel button
- Press and hold the ON button
- Just release the Resume/Cancel button and don't let the ON button be released (the ON button is still pressed)
- While holding the ON button, press the Resume/Cancel button 5 times, then release the ON button.
- Wait a few moments, the Power LED will flash and finally turn green. If the Power LED is green and not blinking, open the Service Tool, and perform the printer reset procedure.
Note:
If the procedure for entering Service Mode has been done correctly, but the Power LED continues to flash, turn off the printer, repeat the above procedure by pressing the Resume/Cancel button 6 times (entering Service Mode without a scanner). Then look at the Power LED, if the Power LED is green and not blinking, it means that the printer has entered Service Mode.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI have a Canon Pixima MG3520. I have code 5B02 error message. I have removed and cleaned the waste ink tray and pads for color and Blk and replaced them. But now i don't know how to get the printer to work... Can you please advise me.
Cheers
Ali
After the ink absorber is cleaned or replaced then reset the waste ink counter value to zero. For complete information regarding this, read my post with the title:
DeleteHow to Reset Canon MG3500 series Ink absorber full error, error code 5B02, 5B03, 5B04, 5B05, 5B12, 5B13, 5B14, 5B15
Follow the procedure, how to reset the waste ink counter
Thank you so much for the fast response. It is really appreciated.
DeleteI read your post and I have done the following:
I think that for my type printer, I can not do Manual Method or General Tool (according to the list) So I only have the option for Service Tool (in my case I need ST v.4713) I was only able to find v4718 and i downloaded and installed it and if I read correctly, the way to accomplish this is to first enter the printer into Service State first.
So I did the procedure you wrote to enter service mode and tried 2, 3, 5 and 6 times but in all cases I was unable to get only the green light to stay on. The green light stays on but there is always the yellow light blinking (the one with the lightning bolt)
I would be very grateful if you could guide me please. Again I thank you for your kind patience.
Ali
It seems that there are two problems with your printer at once:
DeleteFirst: Ink level out (black or color)
Second: Error code 5B02
So when your printer error 5B02 occurs, at the same time the ink cartridge level runs out (black or color). If my guess is correct, follow the procedure below (1 to 7)
The printer is off and the power cable is connected to a power source.
Reset ink level
1. Turn on the printer by pressing the Power button, the printer will read an error (just ignore it.)
2. Press and hold the Stop button for about 20 seconds, then release.
3. Press the Power button again to turn off the printer.
Enter Service Mode
4. Press and hold the Stop button (keep holding it and don't release it)
5. Press and hold the Power button (keep holding it and don't release it). Now both buttons are on hold.
6. Release the Stop button only, while the Power button remains held.
7. While holding down the Power button, press the Stop button 5 times, then release the Power button.
Wait a while, the LEDs will flash and finally only the Power LED is green (not flashing). If the Power LED is green, it means the printer has entered Service Mode. Open Service Tool v.4718 and do a reset.
===================
If the above solution fails, follow the procedure below (1 to 5)
The printer is off and the power cable is connected to a power source.
Enter Service Mode
1. Press and hold the Stop button (keep holding it and don't release it)
2. Press and hold the Power button (keep holding it and don't release it). Now both buttons are on hold.
3. Release the Stop button only, while holding the Power button.
4. While holding down the Power button, press the Stop button 5 times, then release the Power button.
Wait a few moments, the LEDs will flash and finally only the Power LED is green. If the Power LED is green and the Alarm LED is on and flashing, follow the procedure below
5. Press and hold the Stop button for about 20 seconds, then release.
After you do step No.5 and the Alarm LED is off, and all that's left is the Power LED that glows green, meaning the printer has entered Service Mode. Open Service Tool v.4718 and do a reset.
===================
If the Alarm LED is still on and blinking, another possibility is that the printer has detected a scanner error. Follow the procedure below.
4. While holding down the Power button, press the Stop button 6 times, then release the Power button.
Wait a few moments, the LEDs will flash and finally only the Power LED is green. If the Power LED is green, it means the printer has entered Service Mode. Open Service Tool v.4718 and do a reset.
===================
Note:
- Reset can be done if the printer is in Service Mode.
- The main characteristics of the printer entering Service Mode are that only the Power LED lights up green/blue (depending on the printer type.)
- Make sure the procedure to enter Service Mode is done correctly.
- If the procedure for entering Service Mode has been carried out correctly, but the printer always fails to enter Service Mode, another possibility is a double error
1. The cartridge ink level runs out and error 5B02 (Solutions 1 and 2)
2. Scanner error and error 5B02 (Solution 3)
- If all solutions to enter Service Mode have been carried out, but the printer still fails to enter Service Mode, the last possibility is that the EEPROM IC is damaged, so the printer cannot enter Service Mode. The solution to this problem please contact the Canon Service Center or the nearest printer repair professional.
Hi,
DeleteI have followed your instructions and have successfully entered service mode. THANK YOU
I will continue now with your directions on how to reset using the service tool v.4718.
I have removed the rubber settings and small absorber pads for both BLK and CL and cleaned them and reinstalled them. These are located directly under the ink tanks.
Are there any other waste ink reservoirs that I should clean? In your description it is mentioned " To replace or clean the ink absorber, the printer must be disassembled because the ink absorber is at the bottom of the printer machine." So that leads me to think that what i did was partially correct and not complete. If i need to disassemble my printer do you have a schematic or cutaway diagram to assist me in my proper disassembly? I am an amateur of course.
THANK YOU AGAIN
Cheers
Ali
I suggest you download the Service Manual document for the Canon MG3500 series. Although this document is written in Chinese, please refer to the disassembly diagram of the printer on pages 16 and 17.
DeleteThe ink absorbers for the Canon MG3500 series and MG3600 series, are shown on page 17 (detail Number 14 for the main ink absorber, and detail Number 15 for the platen ink absorber).
When an error 5B02 (5B02 means the main ink absorber is full), just clean the main ink absorber (detail Number 14), the easiest way is to open the right side cover, you will see a hose that goes into the white container. Inside the white container, there is an ink-absorbing foam inside. So just clean all or part of the ink-absorbing foam in the container.
To clean all the ink absorbers the best way is to disassemble the printer, but if that is difficult to do, I don't recommend you to do that. So the best solution is to simply open the printer cover on the right side and then clean all or some of the foam in the container.
Service Manual Document (pdf) can be downloaded here

I have two used G4900.I don't know the previous history of the G4900 but it doesn't seem particularly problematic because it contains normal color heads.Service mode entered normally and the service tool was executed. But neither eeprom nor counter reset have caused 002 errors. The cartridge works normally on the g3900 and this program works normally on the g3900 as well. What is the problem?
ReplyDeleteWe recommend that you read the Canon G3000 series Service Manual (pdf), please read the chapter Operator Call Error and Service Call Error pages 8-13. Error messages, error codes, and solutions are included.
