How to Fix Canon Pixma MX880 Series error Ink Absorber Full [5B00] [5B01]

This solution use to Canon Pixma MX880 Series:
Canon Pixma MX880, MX881, MX882, MX883, MX884, MX885, MX886, MX887, MX888

Operator Call Errors (Alarm Lamp Lit In Orange)
Error: Warning: The ink absorber becomes almost full.
Error code: [1700]
Message on the LCD: The ink absorber is almost full. Press [OK] to continue printing. Contact the service center.

Service Call Errors
Cycles of blinking of alarm and power LEDs: 7 times
Error: Ink absorber full
Error code: [5B00] [5B01]

Solution: Reset the printer with Canon Service Tool

Reset Canon Pixma MX880 Series error Ink Absorber Full [5B00] [5B01]

STEP 1 - Enter Service Mode

Service mode operation procedures:

With the top cover closed and the printer power turned off:
1)   Press and hold the STOP button.
2)   Press and hold the ON button. (DO NOT release both buttons.)
3)   While holding the ON button, release the STOP button. (DO NOT release the ON button.)
4)   While holding the ON button, press and release the STOP button 5 times, then release the ON buttons.

  • When the Power LED lights in green, the printer is ready for the service mode operation. The LCD turns in black, and nothing is displayed.
  • If the Power LED does not turn green, printer fail to enter Service Mode. Please, turn OFF the printer and then repeat Service mode operation procedures.

STEP 2 - Reset Printer

8.   Reset with Service Tool v.2000

  • Download Service Tool v.2000
  • Extract file and open Service Tool. If Service Tool can't be open, unplug USB cable and then open Service Tool. After open Service Tool, re-connect USB cable.
  • Load paper A4 or Letter
  • For your reference in servicing, click EEPROM information print before resetting (1)
  • Clear Ink Counter, click MAIN (2). Wait for the printer to finish printing D=000.0. D is a Waste ink amount. D=000.0 means "The ink absorber counter has been reset to zero".

  • Select the Destination, Region: ASA, AUS, BRA, CHN, CND, EMB, EUR, JPN, KOR, LTN, TWN, USA (3) and then click SET (4)
  • Click EEPROM information print once again after resetting (1).
  • Compare EEPROM information before and after reset, look at the value of D (Waste ink amount).
  • If all goes well, close Service Tool
  • Turn off the printer (wait 10 seconds)
  • Turn on printer and printer ready to use
