Problem Statement
Every time the Epson printer is turned on or starts printing, the pump will suck in ink to flow to the print head, and make sure the printer is ready to use. This process runs automatically each time it starts printing. This ink suction, produces waste ink that is contained in the "Waste Ink Pad Assy". Until one day the printer's ink pad reaches the end of service, and the printer's status says "Service required. A printer's ink pad is at the end of its service life. Please contact Epson Support". When this happens, the paper and ink indicator lights turn alternately.

Question and Answer

Q: Communication error! Error Code: xxxxxxxx when using the Adjustment Program. What to do?
A: Communication error! Error Code: xxxxxxxx occurs because the printer is not ready to accept commands from the Adjustment Program because it is still busy processing the previous command.
Communication error! Error Code xxxxxxxx when use Epson Adjustment Program
So when the printer receives the command example "Main pad counter -> Check", the power light will blink for about 60 seconds. The printer can process the next command example "Main pad counter -> Initialization" after 60 seconds have passed. Communication error! Error Code: xxxxxxxx occurs because the second command "Main pad counter -> Initialization" is done while the printer is still processing the previous command. So wait for the power light to stop flashing, then run the next command.

Q: Can the waste ink pad be washed and reused?
A: Waste ink pad can be used for one use. If waste ink pad is available in the market, it is recommended to replace it with a new one. Washing of waste ink pad is done if the new waste ink pad is not available in the market and must be used again. Here is how to clean waste ink pad.

Soak the waste ink pad with water. If the water turns turbid, replace the water with a new one. Do the soaking repeatedly until it feels clean, then dry the waste ink pad to remove the remaining water that is left behind by drying or aerating it.

Keep in mind: when the waste ink pad is soaked or dried, don't squeeze it. When the waste ink pad is squeezed, the air cavity in the waste ink pad will disappear. Waste ink pad has a fluffy form. When squeezed, the air cavity will disappear and its shape will change to shrink.

Q: If the waste ink pad is replaced with a new one, but the printer is not reset. Will the printer return to normal?
A: Because the waste ink counter has not been reset to zero, the printer will still be in error and cannot be used, even though the waste ink pad has been replaced.

Q: If the waste ink pad is not replaced or cleaned, but only reset. Will the printer return to normal?
A: Because the waste ink pad has been reset to zero, the printer will return to normal, but in the near future, waste ink will overflow out of the printer because the waste ink pad is full.

To repair the Epson printer for the error "A printer's ink pad is at the end of its service life" was done in two stages.
