How to Reset Canon Pixma MG5200 Series error Ink Absorber Full [5B00] [5B01]


Canon Pixma MG5200 Series: MG5200, MG5210, MG5220, MG5230, MG5240, MG5250, MG5270, MG5280

Operator Call Errors
Error: Warning: The ink absorber becomes almost full.
Error code: [1700]
Message on the LCD: The ink absorber is almost full. Press [OK] to continue printing. Contact the service center for replacement.

Service Call Errors
Cycles of blinking of Alarm and Power LEDs: 7 times
Error: Ink absorber full
Error code: [5B00], [5B01]
Checkpoints & Solution: Ink absorber condition: Replace the ink absorber, and reset the ink absorber counter value in the EEPROM.

Solution: Reset the printer



Reset Canon Pixma MG5200, MG5210, MG5220, MG5230, MG5240, MG5250, MG5270, MG5280 error Ink Absorber Full [5B00] [5B01]


Before resetting, the printer must be in Service Mode.

STEP 1 - Enter Service Mode

Service mode operation procedures:
1)   Turn off a printer
2)   Press and hold the STOP button
3)   Press and hold the ON button (do not release both buttons)
4)   Release the STOP button (do not release the ON button)
5)   While holding the ON button, press the STOP button 5 times, and then release both the ON and STOP buttons together.

About point 5):
While holding the ON button, press and release the STOP button 4 times, then press and hold the STOP buttons, then release both the ON and STOP buttons together.

Note:
  • When the power LED lights in green and nothing is displayed on the LCD, it means the printer is ready for the service mode operation.
  • If the power LED does not turn green, the printer fails to enter Service Mode. Turn off the printer and then repeat Service mode operation procedures.


STEP 2 - Reset error Ink Absorber Full [5B00] [5B01]

To reset error Ink Absorber Full for Canon Pixma MG5200, MG5210, MG5220, MG5230, MG5240, MG5250, MG5270, MG5280 use:
1.   Canon Service Tool v.1081 (Recommended)
2.   Canon Service Tool v.2000 (Alternative)

Because of the Canon Service Tool v.1081 is not available, as an alternative, use the Canon Service Tool v.2000. In this post, I will discuss how to reset the Canon Pixma MG5200 Series with the Canon Service Tool v.2000.

Reset error ink absorber full with Service Tool v.2000

After entering Service Mode, follow the instructions below
  • Download Service Tool v.2000
  • Extract file and open Service Tool. If Service Tool can't be open, unplug the USB cable and then open the Service Tool. After the open Service Tool, re-connect USB cable.
  • Load paper A4 or Letter
  • For your reference in servicing, print EEPROM (1) information before resetting.
  • Clear Ink Counter, click MAIN (2) to Main ink absorber counter resetting. After the ink absorber counter is reset, the counter value is printed automatically.
  • Select the destination, Region (3): ASA, AUS, BRA, CHN, CND, EMB, EUR, JPN, KOR, LTN, TWN, USA and then click SET (4)
  • Print EEPROM (1) information once again after resetting.
  • Compare EEPROM information before and after reset, look at the value of D (Waste ink amount).
  • If all goes well, close Service Tool
  • Turn off the printer (wait 10 seconds)
  • Turn on printer and printer ready to use

  1. When I open the Service Tool all the boxes are greyed out with or without the USB connected. My computer can access the printer as it reads its status correctly. Why doesn't the tool link to the printer? It's an MG5250 and I have this problem with both my Windows 10 and XP computers.
    Help please!
