How to Fix Canon iP3300 Ink absorber full error, error code 5B00, 5B10, 5B01, 5B11, 1700, 1701, 1710, 1711

The full ink absorber error occurs because every time the printer does cleaning or deep cleaning, it will produce waste ink. This waste ink is streamed and collected in the waste ink absorber. Until one day, the waste ink absorber is full and when checking the status of the printer, a message appears: Ink absorber is full, error code: 5B00 / 5B10 / 5B01 / 5B11.

Problem Description
This error occurs twice, namely when the ink absorber is almost full (95% of the ink absorbent capacity is filled), and when the ink absorber is full (100% of the ink absorbent capacity is filled). When the ink absorber is almost full it is called Operator Call Error, and when the ink absorber is full it is called a Service Call Error.

Operator Call Error
Alarm LED Blinking in Orange: 8 times
Error: Warning: The main or borderless-print ink absorber becomes almost full (approx. 95% full).
Error code:
    -  1700: Main ink absorber (Overseas)
    -  1710: Borderless-print ink absorber (Overseas)
    -  1701: Main ink absorber (Japan)
    -  1711: Borderless-print ink absorber (Japan)
Solution:
    -  Pressing the Resume/Cancel button will exit the error, and enable printing without replacing the ink absorber. However, when the ink absorber becomes full, no further printing can be performed unless the applicable ink absorber is replaced.
    -  Replace the ink absorber, and reset its counter.


Service Call Error
Cyclic Blinking in Orange (Alarm LED) and Green (Power LED): 7 times
Error: Main or borderless-print full ink absorber
Error codes:
    -  5B00: Main ink absorber (Overseas)
    -  5B10: Borderless-print ink absorber (Overseas)
    -  5B01: Main ink absorber (Japan)
    -  5B11: Borderless-print ink absorber (Japan)
Solution:
    1.  Replace or clean the ink absorber kit (PN.QY5-0177-000)
    2.  Reset the waste ink counter.


Solution
Referring to the information in the Canon iP3300 Service Manual, there are two types of improvement processes that can be carried out, namely
1.  Partial replacement
        Partial replacement is to replace only part of the absorbent ink and then reset the waste ink counter to 40%.
2.  Whole replacement
        Whole replacement is to replace all of the ink absorbent followed by resetting the waste ink counter to 0%.


1.  Partial Replacement
  • Difficulty level: low
  • Only part of the ink absorber has been replaced
  • New ink absorber can be purchased on the market with PN.QY5-0177-000. If a new ink absorber is not available in the market, an alternative solution is to clean the ink absorber and reuse it.
  • Output after partial replacement: approx. 4000 pages
  • Reset waste ink counter to 40%.

After the ink absorber has been replaced or cleaned, repairs are continued by resetting the waste ink counter to 40%. Follow the procedure below on how to reset the printer for Partial replacement.


Reset the waste ink counter to 40%
The printer can be reset if the printer is in Service Mode. Here's how to enter Service Mode.

Procedure for entering Service Mode

  • Close the top cover, and the printer is off.
  • Press and hold the Resume/Cancel button.
  • Press and hold the Power button.
  • Release the Resume/Cancel button (the Power button should not be released).
  • While holding down the Power button, press the Resume/Cancel button 2 times then release the Power button.
  • Wait a few moments, the Power LED will flash and light green. If the Power LED turns green, it means that the printer has entered Service Mode.

Reset the waste ink counter to 40%
  • Press the Resume/Cancel button 4 times then press the Power button (enter the ink absorber counter resetting mode).
  • Press the Resume/Cancel button 3 times then press the Power button (set the main ink absorber counter value to 40%).

Destination settings
  • Press the Resume/Cancel button 5 times then press the Power button (enter the destination settings mode).
  • Press the Resume/Cancel button x times then press the Power button. The value of x adjusts to the destination country. For destination countries: Japan (1 time), Korea (2 times), US (3 times), Europe (4 times), Australia (5 times), Asia (6 times), China (7 times), Taiwan (8 times ).
  • Example: For Asia destination countries. Press the Resume/Cancel button 6 times then press the Power button.

EEPROM initialization
  • Press the Resume/Cancel button 3 times then press the Power button.

EEPROM information print
  • Load paper (A4 or Letter)
  • Press the Resume/Cancel button 2 times then press the Power button. Wait a few moments, the printer will print the EEPROM data. Look at the value of D (Main ink absorber counter value), if the value of D=040.0 means that the main ink counter has been reset to 40%.

Turn off the printer
  • Press the Power button 1 time to turn off the printer. Wait about 15 seconds, then turn the printer back on. Done.


2.  Whole replacement
  • Difficulty level: high
  • Replace all ink absorber.
  • New ink absorber can be purchased on the market with PN.QY5-0177-000. If a new ink absorber is not available in the market, an alternative solution is to clean the ink absorber and reuse it.
  • Output after whole replacement: approx. 8000 pages
  • Reset waste ink counter to 0%.

Turn off the printer
  • Press the Power button 1 time to turn off the printer. Wait about 15 seconds, then turn the printer back on. Done.

Repair begins with replacing the ink absorber, followed by resetting the waste ink counter. From the two methods above, Partial replacement and Whole replacement, choose the method that you think is the easiest to do.
