Adjustment / Settings

Refer to the information in the Canon iP2700 / iP2770 / iP2780 Service Manual, to reset the Canon iP2700 / iP2770 / iP2780 printer, use Service Tool v.1071. Since Service Tool v.1071 is not available use Service Tool v.1074 instead.

Service Tool can be used if the printer is in Service Mode. Here's how to enter Service Mode.
  • The printer is off.
  • Press and hold the Resume/Cancel button.
  • Press and hold the ON button.
  • Release the Resume/Cancel button (do not release the ON button)
  • With the ON button still pressed, press the Resume/Cancel button 5 times.
  • After pressing the Resume/Cancel button 5 times, release the ON button.
  • Wait a few moments, the Power light will flash and turn green. If the light turns green, it means that the printer has entered Service Mode. If the Power light continues to blink and flash orange, turn off the printer, and repeat the procedure for entering Service Mode correctly.
  • After the printer enters Service Mode, open Service Tool v.1074 and reset can be done.

Errors and warnings are displayed by the following ways:
  • Operator call errors are indicated by the Alarm lamp lit in orange.
  • Messages during printing from a computer are displayed on the printer driver Status Monitor.
  • Error codes are printed in the "operator call/service call error record" area in EEPROM information print.

Open the printer's cover, firmly push down the ink cartridge locking cover, and then make sure the ink cartridge is installed properly. Then close the

printer's cover.
Re-set the ink cartridge properly. If the error is not cleared, the ink cartridge may be defective.
Replace the ink cartridge.
Ink cartridge not installed. [1401] 5 times The following ink cartridge cannot be recognized.

Printing cannot be executed because the ink cartridge may not be installed properly or may not be compatible with this printer.

Install the appropriate ink cartridge. If you want to cancel printing, click Cancel Printing.
Install the ink cartridge. If the error is not cleared, the ink cartridge may be defective. Replace the ink cartridge.
Ink cartridge temperature sensor error. [1403] 5 times The type of print head is incorrect. Install the print head. Re-set the ink cartridge. If the error is not cleared, the ink cartridge may be defective.
Replace the ink cartridge.
Non-supported ink cartridge installed. [1485] 5 times The following ink cartridge cannot be recognized.

Printing cannot be executed because the ink cartridge may not be installed properly or may not be compatible with this printer.

Install the appropriate ink cartridge. If you want to cancel printing, click Cancel Printing.
A non-supported ink cartridge is installed. Install the supported ink cartridge. If the error is not cleared, the ink cartridge may be defective. Replace the ink cartridge.
Ink cartridge in a wrong position. [1486] 7 times An ink cartridge is not installed in the correct position.
Install the following ink cartridge in the appropriate position. If printing is in progress, cancel printing and install the ink cartridge.

Install the ink cartridge(s) in the correct position. If the error is not cleared, the ink cartridge may be defective. Replace the ink cartridge.
Multiple ink cartridges of the same color installed. [1487] 7 times More than one ink cartridge of the following type is installed.

Use only one ink cartridge per type at a time.
Replace the wrong ink cartridge(s) with the correct one(s). If the error is not cleared, the ink cartridge may be defective. Replace the ink cartridge.
Warning: The ink absorber becomes almost full. [1700] 8 times The ink absorber is almost full. Press the printer's RESUME button to continue printing.
The printer will soon require servicing to replace the ink absorber. Contact the support center or the service center.
The ink absorber can only be replaced by a qualified technician.
Replace the ink absorber, and reset its counter. Pressing the Resume/Cancel button will exit the error, and enable printing without replacing the ink absorber. However, when the ink absorber becomes full, no further printing can be performed unless the applicable ink absorber is replaced.
The remaining ink amount unknown. [1686] 13 times The following ink may have run out.

The function for detecting the remaining ink level will be disabled since the ink level cannot be correctly detected.
If you want to continue printing without this function, press the printer's RESUME button for at least 5 seconds.
Canon recommends to use new genuine Canon cartridges in order to obtain optimum qualities. Please be advised that Canon shall not be liable for any malfunction or trouble caused by continuation of printing under the ink out condition.
Replace the applicable ink cartridge with a new one. Printing without replacing the ink cartridge can damage the printer.
However, to continue printing without replacing the ink cartridge(s), press the Resume/Cancel button for 5 sec. or longer to disable the function to detect the remaining ink amount. After the operation, it is recorded in the printer EEPROM that the function to detect the remaining ink amount was disabled.

Ink cartridge not recognized (region code error).

[1684] 14 times The following ink cartridge cannot be recognized.

Printing cannot be executed because the ink cartridge may not be installed properly or may not be compatible with this printer.
Install the appropriate ink cartridge. If you want to cancel printing, click Cancel Printing.
A non-supported ink cartridge (whose region code differs from the printer's region code) is installed. Install the supported ink cartridge. If the error is not cleared, the ink cartridge may be defective. Replace the ink cartridge.
Ink cartridge hardware error. [1682] 15 times The following ink cartridge cannot be recognized.

Printing cannot be executed because the ink cartridge may not be installed properly or may not be compatible with this printer.
Install the appropriate ink cartridge. If you want to cancel printing, click Cancel Printing.
Re-set the ink cartridge. If the error is not cleared, the ink cartridge may be defective.
Replace the ink cartridge.
No ink (no raw ink). [1688] 16 times The following ink has run out.

Replace the ink cartridge and close the cover.
If printing is in progress and you want to continue printing, press the printer's RESUME button for at least 5 seconds with the ink cartridge installed. Then printing can continue under the ink out condition.
The function for detecting the remaining ink level will be disabled. Replace the empty ink cartridge immediately after the printing.
The resulting print quality is not satisfactory, if printing is continued under the ink out condition.
Replace the empty ink cartridge(s). Printing with an empty ink cartridge can damage the printer.

However, to continue printing without replacing the ink cartridge(s), press the Resume/Cancel button for 5 sec. or longer to disable the function to detect the remaining ink amount. After the operation, it is recorded in the printer that the function to detect the remaining ink amount was disabled.

Ink absorber full Japan: [5B01]
Others: [5B00]
7 times The ink absorber is supposed to be full. 1) Part replacement:
- Ink absorber kit
2) Ink absorber counter value in the EEPROM;
- reset the ink absorber counter.
Print head temperature rise error [5200] 8 times The print head temperature exceeded the specified value. 1) Part replacement:
- Ink cartridge
- Logic board
EEPROM error [6800]

9 times A problem occurred in reading from or writing to the EEPROM. 1) Part replacement:
