List of Error Canon MG2900 series and Canon E460 series

Operator Call Error (alarm light flashes)

Errors and warnings are displayed in the following way:
  • Operator call errors are indicated by the number of flashes of the warning light.
  • The information during PC printing is displayed in the printer driver status monitor.
  • The error code is printed in the "Operator Call/Maintenance Call Error Record" area of EEPROM information printing.

Buttons that are effective when an operator call error occurs:
  • ON button: Turn off the printer and turn it on again.
  • Color and Black buttons: Clear an error and recover from an error. In some operator call errors, when the cause of the error is eliminated, the error is automatically cleared, and there is no need to press the Color or Black button.
  • Stop button: Cancel the print job and clear the error when an error occurs.

Card paper [1300] Remove the jammed paper (take it out of the paper feed slot or output bin) and press the Color or Black button.

Replace the ink cartridges.

Ink cartridge temperature sensor error [1403]
An unsupported cartridge is installed [1485]
8 times The ink absorber is almost full [1700] Replace the printer (product replacement service). Press OK to exit the error and allow printing to continue. However, when the ink absorber becomes full, You can no longer print.
9 times Packaging material not taken out [1890] Open the printer cover, remove the ribbon and packaging material from the cart, and close the printer cover.
11 times Special paper is too wide [4102] Choose a special size paper for printing and print.
11 times IVEC print settings error [4103] Change to the paper size or paper size supported by this printer.
12 times Premium content printing error [4100] A non-original ink cartridge is installed. Install a supported (Canon Original) cartridge.
13 times Unknown ink amount is unknown [1686] Replace the corresponding ink cartridge. Printing with an empty ink cartridge can damage the printer. To continue printing without replacing the ink cartridge, press the Stop button for 5 seconds or longer to disable the Detect remaining ink level feature. (After the operation, the operation result is recorded in the printer EEPROM, thereby disabling the function of checking the remaining ink amount.)
14 times Wrong cartridge area code [1684] An unsupported ink cartridge is installed. Install a supported ink cartridge.
15 times Ink cartridge hardware error [1682] Reinstall the ink cartridges correctly. If the error is not cleared, the ink cartridge may be defective. Replace the ink cartridges.
16 times No ink [1688] Replace the corresponding ink cartridge. Printing with an empty ink cartridge can damage the printer. To continue printing without replacing the ink cartridge, press the Stop button for 5 seconds or longer to disable the Detect remaining ink level feature. (After the operation, the operation result is recorded in the printer EEPROM, thereby disabling the function of checking the remaining ink amount.)

Service Mode

(1)   Service mode operation procedure
Use the Service Tool on the connected PC.

1) Start the machine in the service mode.
  • i. With the machine power turned off, while pressing the Stop button, press and hold the ON button. (DO NOT release the buttons).
  • ii. When the Power LED lights in green, while holding the ON button, release the Stop button.
  • iii. While holding the ON button, press the Stop button 5 times*1, and release the ON button. (Each time the Stop/Reset button is pressed, the Alarm and Power LEDs light alternately, Alarm in orange and Power in green)
  • iv. When the Power LED lights in green, the machine is ready for the service mode operation.
*1: To disable the scanner error detection and start the machine in the service mode, press the Stop button 6 times. This way, the service mode is available without the scanner.


2) Start the Service Tool on the connected PC.
  • i. When a button is clicked in the Service Tool dialog box, that function is performed. During operation of the selected function, all the Service Tool buttons are dimmed and inactive.
  • ii. When the operation is completed, "A function was finished." is displayed, and another function can be selected.
  • iii. If a non-supported function is selected, "Error!" is displayed. Click OK in the error message dialog box to exit the error.

(2) Start multiple Service Tools at the same time
Starting from Service Tool V.4.502 or later, multiple service tools in a PC can be started at the same time.
Specification:
  • i. At most 10 Service Tools in a PC can be started at the same time.
  • ii. After connecting the printer and PC, start the printer in the service mode and activate the Service Tool.
  • iii. In order to distinguish each screen when multiple service tools are activated at the same time, a serial number (on the top of the screen) of the connected printer for each Service Tool screen is displayed. For 2009 and earlier versions, the printer serial number is not displayed, but the USB serial number is displayed. When changing the logic board during maintenance, the serial number of the printer is expressed as "000000000".
  • iiii. If the USB cable is disconnected while using the Service Tool, the Service Tool will no longer recognize the printer. To use the Service Tool again, close the wire and restart.

(3) Service Tool v.4.502 or higher
