Epson L1800 Adjustment Program, Service Manual, Parts List

Adjustment Program is a utility software used to reset Epson printers due to one or more spare parts being replaced/removed/repaired. This utility functions so that the print quality of the printer can be maintained after the repair process is carried out, whether it is replacement / repair of spare parts. Adjustment Program is a portable software that works on Windows Operating System (10, 8, 7, Vista, XP) and can be used to reset the printer if the printer is connected to a computer with a USB cable. The following are the functions of the adjustment items in the Epson Adjustment Program.

Adjustment items in the Epson Adjustment Program

EEPROM Data Copy
Purpose: this adjustment is made to read out the necessary information from the EEPROM using the D4 function. If this copy is completed successfully, all the other adjustments required after replacing the main board are no longer necessary.
EEPROM Data Copy

Initial Setting
Purpose: after replacing the Main Board, information common to Main Boards is written by market setting.
Initial Setting

Initialize PF deterioration offset
Purpose: the deterioration amount of the PF Roller Shaft is reflected to the paper feed correction amount. Every time a sheet of paper is fed, the deterioration amount is counted on the basis of the original counter value setting. When the PF Roller Shaft or Printer Mechanism has been replaced during repair, the PF deterioration counter must be reset.
Initialize PF deterioration offset

Head ID Input
Purpose: when replacing the Print Head, this adjustment is made to reduce head manufacturing variations, which may cause individual differences in print quality.
Head ID Input

Head angular adjustment
Purpose: this adjustment is made to correct the error in the Print Head mounting position (Head angle) to make the nozzle line straight with respect to the paper feeding direction. Angular displacement is also checked for.
Head angular adjustment

Bi-D adjustment
Purpose: this adjustment is made to correct the print timing in the go and return paths in bi-directional printing.

First dot position adjustment
Purpose: this function adjusts the print starting position in the CR main scanning direction.

PF adjustment
Purpose: this correction is made when the actual paper feed amount differs greatly from the theoretical value due to paper slip, PF roller tolerances, etc. during paper feed for printing.
PF adjustment

CR motor heat protection control
Purpose: when replacing the Printer Mechanism, this adjustment is made to measure the load of Carriage sliding, and manufacturing variations of the CR Motor and the Power Supply Board to make the most of the motor capabilities in motor heat generation control.
When the Power Supply Board, the CR Motor or the Carriage Shaft has been replaced individually or when the correction value of the EEPROM cannot be read out with the main board replacement, the correction value cannot be recalculated since the condition is the different from when it’s new, therefore, enter the worst value (on which heat generation limit is easily imposed).

PF motor heat protection control
Purpose: when replacing the Printer Mechanism, this adjustment is made to measure manufacturing variations of the PF Motor and the Power Supply Board to make the most of the motor capabilities in motor heat generation control.
When the Power Supply Board or the PF Motor has been replaced individually, or when the correction value of the EEPROM cannot be read out with the main board replacement, the correction value cannot be recalculated since the condition is the different from when it's new, therefore, enter the worst value (on which heat generation limit is easily imposed).

Head cleaning
Purpose: this function is used to execute cleaning 3 (CL3) when ink is not delivered from the Print Head properly, e.g. dot missing or skewed injection.
Head cleaning

Ink charge
Purpose: this function is used for Print Head replacement to drain Shipping Liquid of the after-sales service part in the head flow path and simultaneously fill ink in the head flow path to make all nozzles printable and stabilize the ink in the Print Head.
Ink charge

Waste ink pad counter
Purpose: this function is used to read and reset the Protection Counters.

Final check pattern print
Purpose: use this to check if the all adjustments have been properly made.

EEPROM dump
Purpose: use this to read out the EEPROM data for analysis.

Printer information check
Purpose: use this to read out information on the printer operations.

Questions and Answers

QThere is an error "A printer's ink pad is at the end of its service life" on my printer. If the waste ink pad counter is reset, but the waste ink pad is not replaced or cleaned. Can the printer return to normal?
A: Because the waste ink pad counter has been reset, the printer can be reused, but because the waste ink pad is not replaced or cleaned, in the near future, the waste ink will overflow from the printer because the waste ink pad can no longer hold the waste ink. Resetting the waste ink pad counter becomes effective if the waste ink pad is replaced with a new one.
Waste ink spills out of the waste ink pad assy

Q: How to reset the waste ink pad counter?
A: A complete discussion regarding this problem, please read the following post Epson L1800 A printer's ink pad is at the end of its service life

QError Code: 20000xxx when using the Adjustment Program. What to do?
A: Communication error! Error Code: 20000xxx occurs because the printer is not ready to accept commands from the Adjustment Program because it is still busy processing the previous command.
Communication error! Error Code xxxxxxxx when use Epson Adjustment Program

So when the printer receives the command example Main pad counter - Check, the power light will blink for about 60 seconds. The printer can process the next command example Main pad counter - Initialization after 60 seconds have passed. Communication error! Error Code: 20000xxx occurs because the second command "Main pad counter -> Initialization" is done while the printer is still processing the previous command. So wait for the power light to stop flashing, then run the next command.

When there is damage to the Epson printer and requires replacement of spare parts, after the damaged parts are replaced, then use the Adjustment Program to reset the printer so that it can work optimally with new spare parts. If you are having trouble repairing a faulty printer yourself, we recommend contacting an Epson Authorized Customer Service Center.
